Upcoming Games in January/February 2019 - Part 1 - Anthem

Electronic Arts’ long awaited blockbuster open world game Anthem is finally set to hit shelves on the 22nd of February on PS4, XBOX and PC.

Anthem is an online shared world shooter with very similar game mechanics to that of the Destiny series in which other online players on the server can share their experiences. Players will fend themselves against the alien race created by the omnipresent power known as The Anthem, and these enemies will randomly spawn in the open world, at different levels, power and variety. This enormous sci fi escapade revolves around you playing as a Freelancer, shooting monsters in glorious, bulky exosuits and a very wide and creative variety of weaponry.

Similar to Destiny, progressing in the game depends on the loot you get from killing enemies, participating in online public events, completing story missions and generally playing the game. These loot based RPG open world games are always fun due to the very satisfying progression and Anthem is sure to provide it. However unlike most loot based games, Anthem takes a high emphasis on teamwork, and rewards players who work well in squads which is a brilliant gameplay element in my opinion.

Most notably, many players have been invited to play the demo for Anthem and many have come back from the experience with positive feedback on the game’s enthralling combat and the grind heavy yet rewarding progression system. EA are already on fixing the few bugs that were in the VIP demo and are showing that they care for and want to impress with Anthem. The main compliments made by the demo players mainly included how entertaining the 4 player co-op is. Many also said that the campaign was interesting and worth sitting through, which is definitely a positive for a loot based RPG.

With the diverse and infinite possibilities of the combat system, the beautiful graphics and aesthetics, a range of wild and pleasing weaponry, a constantly updated, shared open world and a decently long campaign, Anthem has probably been worth the wait.
