I felt Virtual Reality! After a recent visit to Game, Bluewater, I interviewed someone ‘in the know’ about Virtual Reality (VR) and managed to experience the rush of Oculus Rift!
The Interview
In between shop duties, I was given permission to ask one of the very friendly and knowledgeable members of staff at Game, Bluewater some questions on VR. Here’s what he said:
When did VR come out?
The first fully released version of VR, came out in September 2016.
On average, how much does a VR headset cost?
For the Oculus Rift headset, it costs £550. Yet the PlayStation VR sells for £350.
How many games are there?
For the Oculus, there are a few hundred games, whereas the PlayStation VR has around 45.
How much do the games cost?
For the PlayStation VR, the games can sell for anywhere between £30 to £50, and the Oculus Rift games go anywhere from £15 to £50.
Is it a popular present for Christmas 2016?
The PlayStation VR is selling quite quickly, but the Oculus Rift is not selling that well, considering Game has only sold 2.
What is the average demographic of purchase?
The average age group of people buying the VR headsets are 20 to 30 year olds, which is interesting, considering that the games are set towards children than adults.
What is the age range for the PlayStation VR?
On the PlayStation VR, there is only one 18 rated game, but it is mainly 3 to 7s.
Where was the VR first released?
The first VR headsets were sent by mail. You could pay the developer via their website and then it would be sent to you directly.
Which headset is selling the most?
PlayStation is currently selling more of its VR Headsets than Oculus, due to the fact that it is more affordable than the Oculus Rift.
