Third film in series finally makes its debut!

On February 9th, 2018, we saw the end of an era. A particularly big era for Maze Runner fans. The third film in the series came out in cinemas across the UK, and it is a must-see for those die-hard fans who have been waiting for the film for over two years.

Star of the films, Dylan O’Brien also played a main role on hit TV show, Teen Wolf. O’Brien was seriously injured on the set of Maze Runner: The Death Cure which drastically set back the release date, however, he bravely chose to still include the shot in which he was injured which can be seen in the film, Maze Runner: The Death Cure. – Credit: Wikimedia Commons

The Maze Runner films are based on the novels by James Dashner; with the first book of the series being released in 2009. There are now five books in the series; two being prequel novels and they are an absolute must-read for all fans of The Hunger Games and the Divergent series. In particular, they are essential for those who have seen the films but neglected to read the book series. As many usually say, the books are usually better than the series and with Dashner’s detailed, unique writing style; it is never too late to join the fandom. They do well as a perfect summer read!

The stories follow Thomas, the protagonist played by Dylan O’Brien in the films, who wakes up in a glade surrounded by a maze with no memory of how or why he is there. Like him, there are other boys in the same position and the first book follows their mission to escape the maze. The second and third books follow on from this as the teenagers fight against the cooperation that put them into the maze, WICKED, and also battle against the disease, the Flare that is destroying the world around them.

Without spoiling any more, the books are thrilling, action-packed and dramatic and the films do not fail to recreate this and personally, I can say even I shed some tears during the cinema. As most books to film series go, the films do not always stick to the original plot of the book but fortunately for Maze Runner fans, this works well and the films have been a huge success. Although, some have received mix reviews; it was a fantastic series that those huge fans hope may be continued with the prequels too becoming films. But who knows what the future holds?
