Many Hollywood celebrities dreaded the 38th Golden Raspberry Awards on Saturday 3rd March, and it is fair to say that some won more than others. However, if you are familiar with the Golden Raspberry Awards (or the Razzies, as they are commonly known), you know that this is not necessarily a good thing.

To provide some insight for the Golden Raspberry Awards, some of the awards range from Worst Actor, to Worst Prequel, Remake, Rip-off or Sequel, to the coveted Worst Picture Award.

Some unfortunate and prominent nominees for the Golden Raspberry Awards included: The Emoji Movie, Transformers: The Last Knight, Baywatch and Fifty Shades Darker, the former walking away with four awards, including Worst Picture, and the latter being nominated for ten categories.

Some notable actors present at the ceremony included Jennifer Lawrence (Mother!), Mark Wahlberg (Transformers: The Last Knight/Daddy’s Home 2) and Tom Cruise (Worst Actor – The Mummy). Other winners (or losers, if you must) include Mel Gibson (Worst Supporting Actor- Daddy’s Home 2), Kim Basinger (Worst Supporting Actress- Fifty Shades Darker) and Tyler Perry (Worst Actress as Mabel ‘Madea’ Simmons in Boo 2! A Madea Halloween).

The awards ceremony itself has received criticism for being a massive joke; anyone can join the Golden Raspberry Foundation, the group responsible for nominating the films to give the awards to. Additionally, it has been noted that the nominees are usually of the mainstream genre (which are not necessarily the worst) and are therefore easy targets, unlike the Academy Awards. However, despite its flaws, this is a Hollywood tradition that has been around for decades and will likely continue to remain in the future.
