The Guardians Return
After 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy success we all waiting for the sequel and here it is. Directed by James Gunn who also directed the previous Guardians.
The team takes off to solve the mystery of Peter Quill’s aka Star-Lord played by Chris Pratt. Most of the original cast returns. Gamora is played by Zoe Salanda and Baby Groot is voiced by Vin Diesel. Rocket Racoon is voiced by Bradley Cooper and Drax is played by Dave Bautista. The new additions to the Guardians are Yondu (Quill’s adopted father) played by Michael Rooker and Nebula (Gamora’s sister) played by Karen Gillan. The big all new character is Mantis, a comic-book fan’s favourite played by Pom Klementieff. The movie has a theme of fathers in it. Finding Star-Lord’s father, Rocket is the “father” of Baby Groot and Gamora and Nebula’s relationship with Thanos.
Marvel in case you didn’t know is leading up to Infinity War. Say you have the Earth based heroes (Iron Man, Spider-Man). Then you have the magic heroes (Thor and Doctor Strange). Then you have the Guardians of the Galaxy (the space heroes). Where the purple guy from the previous Guardians, Thanos gets the Infinity Stones. These have been shown already. So all the heroes must need to come together to stop him. So the Guardians are coming home due to this huge threat. The Avengers have been spilt but the Guardians are stronger than ever. The film will also explore their relationship as they are now like a family.
Though The Guardians movie is a stand-alone one it adds a greater depth to the MCU. The story goes that somehow the Ravangers, (Yondu’s team) turn against him. He is forced to flee and reluctantly joins the Guardians. Before this, the Guardians are hired to kill a giant space monster. They are hired by Ayesha (the gold woman in the recent trailer) played by Elizabeth Debicki (who is the leader of a perfect alien race). Anyways, everything goes haywire and it doesn’t go well. Ayesha becomes the villain. Nebula somehow also joins the Guardians.
Though Sylvester Stallone is rumoured to be in the film as quite an important part, people have speculated that Stallone could be playing Adam Warlock, (who was a big character in Infinity War story line). Some new information has been leaked about Mantis. Keven Feige, the president of Marvel Studios has said,(Mantis) “has never really encountered other people and other humans before and makes Drax look like the savviest person ever.” There were hints of a relationship between Gamora and Star-Lord. Some light has been shed on it in the trailers. So look forward to a Han Solo and Leia relationship.
Due to its success in 2014, I cannot wait for it as well as many of you.
