Shakespeare Schools Festival Review

The Shakespeare School Festival for 2016 took place on the 10th November and was a great success. Four amazing schools showed their talents in acting and performing in two hours of a great Shakespeare production.

The first school performed “The Tempest”. This performance was incredibly inspirational as the play was executed so well. Despite the students’ disabilities, they showed great perseverance to complete the production and this piece really inspires other to try their best in everything.

The second school to performed Macbeth was particularly fascinating and they showed expression in every sentence. The performers were not afraid to speak out and be expressive and that can be very hard for young people. This performance was of a very good quality and showed the pupils hard work to practice and perform this piece.

The penultimate school to performed “As You Like It”. This was the second primary school production of the night, but the quality didn’t change. The performance was incredible despite the young age of the actors and actresses. They also showed guts and determination to perform with expression and to speak aloud. The performers did well to pronounce Shakespearian correctly as it can often be difficult, (as Shakespeare is different to modern day English).

Dartford Grammar School performing “Twelfth Night”

The final production of the night was “Twelfth Night” by Dartford Grammar School. This production was very professional and showed that the actors had experience of performing. This added to the quality of the play. Dartford Grammar School captured both the storyline and the comedic parts of the piece and made it very clear what was happening and when which made the play accessible for everyone.

Overall, the Shakespeare School Festival 2016 was an incredible success and showed a wide range of talent among four different schools in the area. All students involved showed excellent acting skills and composure to speak in front of so many people. The festival was incredibly well planned and was an enthralling evening. Definitely something to come back for next year!
