Anja Cilia, a sixth-former portraying Beatrice described her character: “To me, Beatrice is a feisty, intelligent and strong woman. She reflected a lot of the qualities that weren’t prevalent nor stereotypical characteristics of women in the Shakespearean era, therefore she’s quite striking. Additionally, her individuality, independence and reluctance to rely on men is something that helps form her bold exterior and counteracts with the female conformities present in that era. Her sassy and sarcastic remarks are one of the many elements of her character that I love, and being able to portray these through playing her is something I will greatly enjoy exploring throughout this process.”
