DGS musician debuts at Rochester Cathedral
Joined by the award-winning Rochester Grammar School Senior Girls’ Choir, The Brompton and Invicta Military Wives Choir, as well as a selection of other ensembles and soloists, is Dartford Grammar School student Solon Fountzopoulos who will be performing at Rochester Cathedral in a charity concert supporting the SSAFA.
Programme highlights include Vera Lynn’s White Cliffs of Dover sung by the Swingtime Sweethearts, Mozart’s Laudate Dominum performed by soloist Anna Burgon and Dartfordian Solon Fountzopoulos playing the Revolutionary Étude in C minor by Chopin as well as the Piano Sonata No. 8 (Pathétique) by Beethoven.
Solon Fountzopoulos was born in London and started learning the piano at the age of six. He currently studies at Dartford Grammar School, where he has performed piano solos and recitals in a number of prestigious venues. Solon was honoured to have been awarded Highly Commended in the Royal Opera House Fanfare Competition 2018 for his composition Power from the Vanquisher. This November, he will be touring to Germany performing Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 21 with the Dartford Grammar School Symphony Orchestra.
All profit from the event will be used to support the military community in Kent. Formerly known as the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association, the SSAFA is a UK charity that provides lifelong support to serving men and women and veterans from the British Armed Forces and their acquaintances. Staffed by volunteers, the Kent branch will be grateful for funds raised to ensure their vital work can continue.
