McLaren 720s Unveiled

By Rio, Technology Staff Writer

This year’s Geneva motor show was the most exciting ones yet, there were many cars on display such as Mercedes’ new AMG line, Ferrari’s new 812 superfast and the Range Rover Velar. But the star of the show was the new McLaren 720S, a worthy successor of the McLaren 650S.

The new McLaren 720S brings never before technology to the table, and only coming at a price point of £200,000, which is relatively low for a hypercar. It has quite a spec sheet with 710hp 4.0 litre twin turbo V8, can accelerate from 0-62 in 2.9 seconds and has a top speed of 212mph. The 720S also holds McLaren’s new lightweight chassis system: Proactive Chassis control II. The new suspension also allows for a smooth ride, onboard computers determine the terrain and allow for the smoothest ride possible through a variety of algorithms.

Not only does it have the performance and comfort, it also looks the part. It has beautiful dynamic LED headlights that are sleek and designed so air can pass around it into intakes that it rests on. Everything on the car is optimized for efficient air flow reducing as much drag as possible, hidden intakes can be found all over the car all the while making it look exotic with swirling eyes like the famous P1. Another cool feature is the folding dashboard that folds away to show a simple dashboard in race-mode. There are also small features such as the illuminated engine bay, designers are always trying to lower the engine as further down as possible to reduce drag and achieve a better central mass. This means that it is difficult to see the engine deck, to fix this there are multiple red LED lights lighting up the whole engine bay giving it a menacing look. The McLaren 720S has been a worthy successor in the super series after the 650S, not only is it a sophisticated beast of a car it also presents beauty and comfort all the while achieving a low price of £200,000. In comparison, the P1 is priced at £900,000.
